File categories used by DDFileCatcher

To make it easier to select file properties, we have grouped them into the 293 categories listed here:

Application version properties

Application version properties describe the version of a Windows executable file; that is, one with an exe or dll extension. The data is embedded in the executable file by the software developer, so do not always exist.

Document properties

Document properties are saved in files made by applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Some are generated automatically, such as "Word Count", and others can be entered by the user, such as "Comment"

File information

We call file information properties properties that all files have, such as "Size" and "Date Created".

Image GPS properties

Image GPS properties are saved in image files by cameras and other optical instruments that have a GPS receiver incorporated in it or connected to it. The are used to identify where the image was taken.

Image properties

Image properties relate to the appearance of an image or the camera or other equipment used to make the image. Whether a property exists for a file depends on the camera used to make the image. Some image file propertied can be edited by the user, such as the "Comment" property.

Media file properties

Media file properties describe audio and video files, and are usually saved in a file by the apparatus used to make the file. Some media file propertied can be edited by the user, such as the "Comment" property.

thumbnail-properties

Thumbnail properties are the same properties as a normal image file, but apply to the thumbnail only. The main difference in values is probably the dimensions, such as width and height.
