The name of the application that Windows uses to open a file.
Application name is a file property in a category we call Document properties.
Document properties are saved in files made by applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Some are generated automatically, such as "Word Count", and others can be entered by the user, such as "Comment"

Make a list of windows applications
To make a list of which Windows application is associated with different file types, you could copy files into a folder, or a flash drive, with the file extensions for the file types.
